WHILE rainforests once covered 14 per cent of the earth’s surface, they are predicted to be non-existent by 2050. With the amount of major floods worldwide increasing tenfold over the past 30 years, more than one million species worldwide could be driven to extinction by the same time. Founder of Samsara Furniture and Homewares Giovanna Aryafara, is already seeing the effects of these changes on a regular basis during her travels across Asia for new products. From India to Indonesia, she has spoken one-on-one with some of the people whose economies are already being touched by the impact of environmental neglect. As a result, Samsara Furniture and Homewares decided to join the worldwide Sustainable Furniture Council (SFC) to help prevent such disastrous events. “As the first company in Australia to join the SFC, Samsara embraces sustainable practices that promote a healthy balance between the environment, local economies and social awareness,” said Ms Aryafara. “Old growth and ancient forests are being saved because no timbers from these areas are cut down to make Samsara products. “Instead, all of Samsara’s timber products are made from either recycled or certified plantation timbers.” Ms Aryafara said the results of both quality products and environmentally friendly habits were guaranteed with every purchase of Samsara furniture. “Help support sustainable practices and make the right choice for the environment by shopping at Samsara.” Samsara Furniture and Homewares is at 54 Bundall Road, Bundall, call 5538 0133, and 74 Kortum Drive, West Burleigh, call 5520 0588.
