SAMSARA IS THE 1ST AUSTRALIAN COMPANY TO JOIN THE SFC

Just for one minute, sit back, close your eyes and visualize that we throw away 350 BILLION tons of furniture that ends up in landfill every year. That’s the equivalent of 17 BILLION cars.  One can only imagine the size of the parking lot needed for that many cars!

Did you realise the furniture industry is one of the largest consumers of wood?  They also produce significant transportation emissions, use a substantial amount of energy and create massive quantities of packaging waste.

The good news is there is a group of dedicated professionals who are stepping up to change their industry. They are the Sustainable Furniture Council (SFC) and Samsara Furniture and Homewares are proud to announce that they are the first Australian company to be part of this worldwide phenomenon.

Giovanna Aryafara, founder of Samsara Furniture and Homewares, had taken notice of this environmental consciousness as far back as 1994, when Samsara was first put on the map on the Gold Coast.   Throughout Giovanna’s many years of travels to all corners of Asia to find new and inspiring products, she has had the chance to speak one-on-one with villages and communities that are already seeing the impact of environmental neglect.

“As the first company in Australia to join the SFC, Samsara embraces truly sustainable practices that promote a healthy balance in local economies and social awareness” Giovanna said.  “Our culture is one of quality products that encompass longevity, with an outcome of solid support & respect for our planet.” Giovanna further explained, ”We need to notice our personal environmental footprints and take responsibility.”
Old growth and ancient forests are being saved because timbers from these areas are not cut down to make Samsara’s unique line of products. Instead, all of Samsara’s timber products are made from either recycled or certified plantation timbers that have a seal of approval.
